Local Interests and activities

The Lews Castle and grounds are about a 20 minute walk from the cottage. The grounds have paths and trails suitable for mountain biking, walking and wheeling. There are plenty benches and places to pause and take in the surroundings along the Creed river, up Gallows Hill or along the shore.

If there is anything you would like to know about our area, or activities you are interested in please do get in touch.
We do have some spectacular beaches quite close to the cottage. If you head for Tolsta there are  a few beaches worth stopping at, CollGress,  Traigh Mhor and, at the end of the road, Garry beach. This last beach has a lovely little bridge that we call the The Bridge to Nowhere. The links give you a bit more info. This  Link to Map shows you the route.
There are some gorgeous beaches in Harris, especially Luskentyre.
If you have time look out for honesty boxes, there are a few about the islands, ranging from fresh eggs, to baking and souvenirs.
This, Visit Scotland web site details a great many of the things to do and see all around Lewis and Harris.
